2007 - Eindejaarslijstjes

Het rockjaar by numbers: er werden in de loop van 2007 welgeteld 1.550 cd's voor recensie aangeboden - gemiddeld zo'n 30 per week - en 20 procent daarvan haalde daadwerkelijk de TTT-pagina's. Het zijn duurbevochten plaatsen.

Tel daar nog de MySpace- en andere digitale ontdekkingen bij, en het zal duidelijk zijn dat er met de kwantiteit alweer niks mis was dit jaar. Met de kwaliteit trouwens evenmin: het radeloos zuchten van de lijstjesmakers klonk opnieuw luider dan de luidste rock-'n-roll. Een jaar waarin pakweg PJ Harvey, Arcade Fire, Babyshambles, Kings of Leon, Mary Gauthier of Liars geen plaats kunnen afdwingen, is een Verdomd Goed Jaar.

En de eindwinnaar is: Beirut, aka Zach Condon. De 21-jarige Amerikaan laat Wilco, M.I.A. en de rest ver achter zich. Vandaag helemaal bovenaan, vorig jaar met zijn debuutplaat al op een verrassende vijftiende plaats: vergeet nooit waar u iets het eerst gelezen hebt!

En dat het recordaantal van 750 Rock Rally-deelnemers zich intussen opmaakt voor hún weg naar het sterrendom (of alvast een heen & terug naar één van de 10 preselecties): rock by numbers!
